The Barbers Hill ISD School Funding Election was developed with
the ongoing & valuable input of our parents, teachers & taxpayers.

Barbers Hill ISD’s commitment to current and future generations is why our Board of Trustees unanimously voted to place a Voter-Approval Tax Rate Election on the November ballot. It’s also known as a School Funding Election.

Like they always do when putting a proposal before voters, they listened to our community and sought the advice of our parents, grandparents, taxpayers, and business leaders. Their goal was to find responsible ways to ensure we have the funds needed to maintain our academic, fine arts, athletics and Career & Technical programs while keeping class sizes small and our students safe.

Another key objective was to find ways to better fund our schools without losing our local tax dollars back to the state. The School Funding Election will help accomplish just that.

Our state leaders have for more than a decade reduced the state’s portion of school funding – that means local districts are required to make up the difference. This year, the Texas Legislature passed a reduction in the school property tax rate – but they did not make up the difference in lost school funding. That means fewer funds for growing districts like Barbers Hill ISD.

However, state leaders are allowing voters the opportunity to recoup the lost classroom, safety, teacher, and student funding with a local School Funding Election. With voter approval, Barbers Hill ISD can do the following:

  • Maintain our state-leading high teacher salaries we need to keep and attract experienced educators.

  • Sustain staffing and state-leading programs that improve safety and security on every campus.

  • Maintain state-leading academic, fine arts and extracurricular offerings.

  • Continue with our policy of small class sizes for more personal attention for our students.

  • Increase the number of career pathways and job training programs.

  • And continue college preparation programs and dual credit offerings to save on future college tuition.
